Ice Dance was composed in 2002 for the dance company Barents Dansemsemble. Its premier performance was at the Winter Festival "Vintervagen" of the same year and featured ice instruments during the third movement. The combination of mallet instruments and accordian gives the piece a certain meditative mood and timbre that is further emphasized by a slow and repetitive rhythm.
